Grande Prairie adds 22 new COVID-19 cases, 16 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 22 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 recoveries, raising the active case total in the city by six to 227 as of the end of day Wednesday.

The County added 13 new cases for February 24, along with seven recoveries. There are now 50 active cases there.

Across Alberta there were 399 new cases discovered after 9,217 tests were completed. Those tests came back with a positivity rate of about 4.3 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day February 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,568 cases (227 active, 1,319 recovered, 22 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 440 cases (50 active, 387 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 372 cases (54 active, 315 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (two active, 45 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (12 active, 438 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 250 cases (30 active, 220 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 419 cases (48 active, 371 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 236 cases (12 active, 223 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 90 cases (16 active, 74 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 819 cases (231 active, 572 recovered, 16 deaths)

Hospitalizations dropped below 300 in Alberta, with 280 people in hospital across Alberta as of Wednesday night, 56 of whom are in intensive care. In the North Zone, 40 people are in hospital, three of whom are in an ICU

Eight more deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported by Alberta Health on Thursday, raising the provincial death toll to 1,874.

Alberta Health says 195,572 doses of vaccine have now been administered, with 80,620 people having received both shots.
