Grande Prairie adds 12 new COVID-19 cases, 23 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 12 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 recoveries, lowering the active case total by 11 to 216 as of the end of day February 25.

The County of Grande Prairie, meantime, added no new cases and four recoveries, lowering the active case total there to 46.

A new outbreak has also been announced at the Northern Addictions Centre in Grande Prairie. Alberta Health says the outbreak has had five cases, three of which have already recovered.

A breakdown of other publicly listed Grande Prairie outbreak sites as of Feb. 25 are as follows:

  1. Grande Prairie Care Centre: 66 cases (60 recovered, six deaths)
  2. Heritage Lodge: 20 cases (15 active, 5 recovered)
  3. Private Group Home: six cases (all recovered)
  4. Signature Support Services: six cases (all recovered)
  5. Care Human Services: 32 cases (20 active, 12 recovered)
  6. Rotary House: 20 cases (four active, 16 recovered)
  7. Saint Lawrence Centre: nine cases (one active, eight recovered)
  8. Shell Gold Creek: eight cases (all recovered)
  9. Walmart: 10 cases (all recovered)

Alberta-wide, there were 356 new cases recorded for Feb. 25, following the completion of 9,212 tests. Those tests came with a positivity rate of about 3.9 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Feb. 25 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,580 cases (216 active, 1,342 recovered, 22 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 440 cases (46 active, 391 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 376 cases (55 active, 318 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (two active, 45 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (10 active, 440 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 250 cases (26 active, 224 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 428 cases (41 active, 387 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 237 cases (14 active, 222 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 91 cases (17 active, 74 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 824 cases (234 active, 574 recovered, 16 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta dropped to 269 as of Thursday night, with 55 people now in an ICU. In the North Zone, 35 people are in hospital, with three in intensive care.

Three new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health on Friday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,877.

The province says 207,300 doses of vaccine have now been administered, with 82,989 people having received both shots.
