Grande Prairie man killed in Highway 2 collision Friday

A Grande Prairie man has died following a collision north of Sexsmith along Highway 2 early Friday morning.

Grande Prairie RCMP say a preliminary investigation shows a car was travelling northbound on Highway 2, near Township Road 744A, where it then crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic, colliding with a semi truck that was travelling southbound.

The 39-year-old driver from Grande Prairie, and lone occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and lone occupant of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Grande Prairie RCMP, along with a RCMP Collision Analyst, continue to investigate. No further updates are anticipated and the name of the deceased will not be released.

Highway 2 has since reopened, after being closed to traffic in that area for most of Friday.
