Feb 26, 2021 | 3:07 PM

High Prairie RCMP have arrested and charged a Slave Lake man after an alleged early morning car-jacking Thursday in the hamlet of Enilda.

Police were notified of the car-jacking, involving a firearm, just after 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. They say the victim in this case had provided the suspect a ride, where the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and forced the victim to get out of the car.

Authorities say the victim did not sustain any injuries.

Police later spotted the vehicle near Valleyview and deployed a tire deflation device. From there, the vehicle was able to travel another 30 km, authorities add, before the suspect attempt to flee on foot.

RCMP apprehended the man without further incident soon after.

Now, 25-year-old Jonah Chad Sawan is facing 21 charges, including two counts of robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and flight from police.

Sawan was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court on March 1.
