Land movement monitors being installed near Bear Creek and 68 Avenue

Two slope movement monitors are being installed on the land north of the 68 Avenue bridge near Bear Creek, as the city continues to monitor the slopes, embankments and retaining walls adjacent to Bear Creek.

This follows the erosion of the bank last spring.

“Movement monitoring programs are valuable for managing slope hazards and providing useful information for the planning and design of remedial work,” says the city, in a release.

Frances Bailey, a project technologist with the city, says the slope is secure and there is no danger to nearby homes.

The city says work in the area will include clearing and leveling a small area of land close to the trails and drilling and installing the monitoring equipment. The trail is not expected to close while the monitors are installed between now and March 4.

“All work zones will be properly signed and barricaded,” adds the city, “Watch for equipment and workers that may be present in the work area. Please obey all signage and proceed with caution.”
