Residential snow clearing to start in City and County of Grande Prairie

Mar 1, 2021 | 11:55 AM

Residential snow removal is set to get underway in both the City and County of Grande Prairie, following the weekend snowfall.

In the City Monday, crews have been busy plowing Priority 1 roads. Along with plowing, crews are sanding and salting the roads to prevent ice from building up.

The City also announced another round of residential snow clearing and parking bans on permanent snow routes starting on Tuesday, March 2. A parking ban on all permanent snow routes is active from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Residential snow clearing occurs in two-week rotations and is completed from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the following neighbourhoods:

  • Monday: Crystal Heights, Crystal Landing, Hillside, Ivy Lake Estates, Mountview, Summit, and VLA/Montrose.
  • Tuesday: Country Club Estates, Countryside North and South, Country Club West, Patterson and South Patterson, Southview, and Signature Falls.
  • Wednesday: Avondale, Cobblestone, College Park, Fieldbrook, Highland Park, Riverstone, Smith, and Swanavon.
  • Thursday: Mission Heights, O’Brien Lake, Pinnacle Ridge, Stone Ridge, and Westpointe.
  • Friday: Arbour Hills, Copperwood, Crystal Lake Estates, Crystal Ridge, Gateway, Lakeland, Northridge, and Royal Oaks.

If a neighbourhood is not completed in week one of the rotation, crews will then return in the second week to complete the area. City crews will continue to plow and sand Priority Routes 1, 2 and 3.

Meanwhile in the County, crews have been dispatched to the Hamlet of Clairmont to clear the snow from 100 to 103 Ave on Monday.

Temporary parking restrictions are in place from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. along the route, and ‘No Parking’ signs have been installed in the affected areas. Vehicles left on the street where the parking restrictions are in place may be ticketed and/or towed.

The County also warns that piling snow onto the roadway is illegal and can result in a $100 fine, as it can create a traffic safety hazard and slows the snow clearing process.
