Grande Prairie adds 12 new COVID-19 cases, eight recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19 and eight recoveries for March 1, bringing the active case total in the city up by four to 208.

The County of Grande Prairie added 10 new cases and nine recoveries, raising the active caseload there by one to 57 as of the end of day Monday.

A new outbreak in the Grande Prairie area was also listed Tuesday, at Tourmaline Oil Musreau. Alberta Health says there are 12 cases linked to the site, 11 of which are active while one has recovered.

An updated breakdown of outbreaks in the Grande Prairie area, as of March 1, are as follows:

1. Grande Prairie Care Centre: 66 cases (60 recovered, six deaths)

2. Heritage Lodge: 21 cases (10 active, 10 recovered, one death)

3. Private Group Home: 6 cases (all recovered)

4. Signature Support Services: 6 cases (all recovered)

5. Care Human Services: 32 cases (three active, 29 recovered)

6. Northern Addictions Centre: 5 cases (one active, 4 recovered)

7. Rotary House: 20 cases (four active, 16 recovered)

8. St. Lawrence Centre: nine cases (all recovered)

9. Shell Gold Creek: eight cases (all recovered)

10. Tourmaline Oil Musreau: 12 cases (11 active, one recovered)

11. Walmart: 10 cases (all recovered)

Across Alberta, there were 257 new cases after 5,864 tests were completed. The positivity rate sits at approximately 4.5 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 1 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,646 cases (208 active, 1,415 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 468 cases (57 active, 408 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 387 cases (40 active, 344 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (two active, 45 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (100 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (eight active, 442 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 253 cases (19 active, 234 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 443 cases (52 active, 391 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 236 cases (eight active, 227 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 94 cases (18 active, 76 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 872 cases (241 active, 615 recovered, 16 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta increased by four to 261 as of Monday night, with 54 of those people in an ICU, an increase of six from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 26 people are in hospital, one of them in an ICU.

Chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says 245,054 doses of vaccine have now been administered in the province. Of those, over 156,000 Albertans have received one dose, while 88,539 Albertans have been fully immunized.
