Avalanche Warning

Avalanche warning issued for Western Canada

Mar 3, 2021 | 5:46 PM

An avalanche warning has been issued for Western Canada, including Jasper National Park and the North Rockies.

The joint alert from Avalanche Canada, Alberta Parks and Parks Canada says increasing temperatures and persistent weak layers in the snowpack are expected to have a destabilizing effect, which could make natural and human-triggered avalanches much more likely.

“Backcountry users and anyone recreating in avalanche terrain are advised to exercise caution and to always check their regional avalanche forecasts at avalanche.ca.”

They also advise every backcountry user to have essential rescue gear, such as a transceiver, probe and shovel – and the knowledge to use it.
