Eastlink Centre announces new fitness options under Step 2

Mar 3, 2021 | 1:12 PM

The Eastlink Centre in Grande Prairie has announced new plans for their facility, as the Government of Alberta has moved into Step 2 of their phased re-opening plan.

Starting on March 4, the Eastlink Centre will offer the following activities to the public:

Eastlink Centre Aquatics:

  • Registered low-intensity group water mobility classes.
  • Private swimming lessons.

Eastlink Centre Fieldhouse:

  • Private household fieldhouse bookings.

Eastlink Centre Fitness Centre:

  • Registered low-intensity group fitness classes.
  • Individuals or members within the same household can book with certified Personal Trainers.

Eastlink Centre Walking Track:

  • Limited availability for pre-booked 1-hour walking sessions.

“We’re really excited because starting tomorrow, we’ll be able to start offering low-intensity group fitness classes in the fitness centre, and we have a mobility class in the aquatics area, and we’ll be opening the walking track for 1-hour walking sessions,” explained Angela Redding, General Manager for the CKC campus.

Redding tells EverythingGP all of the group classes booked will be limited to capacity and will ensure social distancing guidelines are met, as well as other provincial guidelines. She adds as they move into Step 2, they will be cautious.

“It’s actually a really interesting step for us because we understand the need in the community for people to get in and enjoy their health and wellness. It’s not as available as when we re-opened in July and we just want to make sure that we are really cautious and in alignment with everything the government is asking of us. It’s a step forward from where we were after our last closure.”

Because the Eastlink Centre is not fully open for individual fitness and other activities, memberships will remain on hold for the time being.

Anyone who is interested in participating in the activities can do so by booking time slots at the City of Grande Prairie’s website, or by calling the Citizen Contact Centre at 780-538-0300.

Redding mentioned that the health, safety & wellness of their customers will always be their top priority. If all goes well with the current Step 2 plan, Redding says she’s confident the Eastlink Centre will be able to open more areas of the facility in the coming weeks.
