Swanavon School placed under COVID-19 outbreak status

Swanavon School in Grande Prairie has now been placed under a COVID-19 outbreak status, as at least 10 cases have now been confirmed among individuals from the school.

There are now four schools in Grande Prairie that reporting 10 or more cases under an outbreak status, including Aspen Grove, École Nouvelle Frontière, and St. John Paul II.

St. John Paul II, as a result of the outbreak, will be moving online for the week of March 8-12 to help curb the spread of the virus.

Other schools in Grande Prairie under an outbreak status include St. Catherine, Charles Spencer, Ecole Montrose and Alexander Forbes. Each of those schools is reporting between five and nine cases.

Alerts, meaning there have been between two and four cases confirmed, are active at eight other schools, including Grande Prairie Composite High School, Riverstone, Parkside Montessori, St. Clement, Ecole St. Gerard, Harry Balfour, Hillside Community School and Grande Prairie Christian School.

Outbreaks and alerts are considered over when 28 days has passed with no new cases confirmed within the school setting.
