Grande Prairie adds 37 new COVID-19 cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 37 new cases of COVID-19 alongside 17 recoveries, raising the active case total in the city to 229 as of the end of day Thursday.

The County of Grande Prairie added ten new cases and two recoveries, bringing the active case total there to 68.

Across Alberta there were 411 new cases confirmed, following the completion of 10,559 tests. Those tests came back with a positivity rate of about 3.9 per cent.

This comes on the one year anniversary of Alberta reporting its first confirmed case of COVID-19. Since March 5, 2020, the province has confirmed a total of 135,196 cases. Of those, 128,644 people have recovered, while 1,913 people have died (including two being reported on Friday).

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 4 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,716 cases (229 active, 1,464 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 487 cases (68 active, 416 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 399 cases (43 active, 353 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 111 cases (one active, 100 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (seven active, 443 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 252 cases (14 active, 238 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 459 cases (50 active, 409 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 237 cases (six active, 230 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 96 cases (14 active, 82 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 922 cases (220 active, 684 recovered, 18 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta fell to 243 as of Thursday night, with 44 of those people in an ICU. In the North Zone, 29 people are in hospital with one in intensive care.

The province says 275,719 doses of vaccine have been administered, with 90,486 people having received two doses.
