Nitehawk in Top Peak contest with hope of winning $50,000 for new lift

Mar 5, 2021 | 2:22 PM

Nitehawk Adventure Park has entered the Mackenzie Top Peak contest, with the hope of winning $50,000 to help go towards their new ski lift.

Last summer, Nitehawk’s chairlift at their ski hill was damaged following a massive landslide at the facility. As a result of the landslide, Nitehawk had to go without a chairlift for the 2020-21 skiing season.

Mackenzie Top Peak is a national competition that puts out a call to action for ski communities across Canada to showcase their spirit. At the end of the ski season, a panel of judges will award Canada’s Top Peak with $50,000 to invest in the cause of their choice.

Johnathan Clarkson, the General Manager of Nitehawk says being able to win $50,000 would be very beneficial for the non-profit organization.

“Any investment at all from outside sources is huge. It’s going to be quite the project once we get going with it, we aren’t 100 per cent sure on full costs yet, but as we move forward, we definitely need help.”

Clarkson tells EverythingGP they’ve been in discussions with various municipalities regarding funding for a new ski lift, however, adds that not all of that money is guaranteed yet.

Clarkson feels Nitehawk has a good chance at winning the contest.

“I think based on what Nitehawk has experienced this year with a natural disaster, on top of a global pandemic, I think we’re certainly deserving of the $50,000 to help go towards that landslide recovery.”

Voting for the contest is free. You can vote by heading to the Mackenzie Top Peak website, where you will be given the option to vote for various ski hills across Canada. You don’t need to make an account to vote, however, there are ways to get extra votes.

If you vote directly on the website, one vote will be given to whoever they choose.

However, if you post a picture on social media and use #TopPeakNitehawk, Nitehawk will then receive five votes towards their project.

The top ten peaks across Canada will be announced on March 14 and the finalists will be given one final week to rally.

A panel of judges will then select a winner on March 30.
