Seven new COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie, 17 recoveries

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the City of Grande Prairie has dropped 10 for March 5, going from 229 to 219. Saturday’s update also says seven new cases have been found and recoveries have gone up by 17.

In the County of Grande Prairie, the number of active cases is down by three to 65. Recoveries are up by four and one new case has been detected.

The numbers for the MD of Greenview show 42 active cases, down one from Friday’s update. Four new ones have been found and recoveries are up by five.

There are no active cases now in the MD of Smoky River.

The updated numbers for northwestern Alberta are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,723 cases (219 active, 1,481 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 488 cases (65 active, 420 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 403 cases (42 active, 358 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 111 cases (101 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (six active, 444 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 252 cases (14 active, 238 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 461 cases (48 active, 413 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 238 cases (eight active, 229 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 96 cases (12 active, 84 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 929 cases (175 active,736 recovered, 18 deaths)

Alberta is reporting one death and 411 new cases province-wide. The new cases include 36 new variant ones. Five cases of the variant first identified in the UK have been identified in the North Zone as of March 5.

There are 247 people in the hospital, 42 of them in an ICU. In the North Zone, 32 people are in the hospital with one in intensive care.

The province says a total of 282,674 doses of vaccine have been given out, with 90,824 Albertans now being fully vaccinated.
