Four new COVID-19 cases, 17 recoveries recorded in Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie added four new cases of COVID-19 and 17 recoveries for March 8, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 214 as of the end of day Monday.

The County of Grande Prairie added six cases to go along with four recoveries, raising the number of active cases there to 71.

Across Alberta, there were 255 new cases of COVID-19 identified, following the completion of 5,434 tests. Those tests came back with a positivity rate of approximately 4.7 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 8 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,755 cases (214 active, 1,518 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 501 cases (71 active, 427 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 420 cases (50 active, 367 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 113 cases (two active, 101 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 460 cases (449 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 255 cases (seven active, 248 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 473 cases (45 active, 428 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 58 cases (one active, 56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 239 cases (four active, 234 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 96 cases (eight active, 88 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 954 cases (143 active, 793 recovered, 18 deaths)

Hospitalizations rose by nine in the province, jumping to 263 as of Monday night. Of those people in hospital, 37 are in the ICU, one more than the day prior.

In the North Zone, there are 33 people hospitalized with COVID-19, one of whom has been admitted to intensive care.

There were six new deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, raising the provincial death toll to 1,926.

The province has now administered over 300,000 doses of vaccine as of March 8. A total of 91,138 Albertans are fully immunized with two doses.
