Valleyview distillery’s gin awarded gold medal at Canadian Artisan Spirit Awards

Another Peace Region distillery has taken home an award from the 2021 Canadian Artisan Spirit Awards.

The Crabbie Goat in Valleyview recently was awarded a gold medal for their London Dry Gin.

The award highlights some very early success for the new distillery, which opened its doors for the first time to the public on July 1, 2020.

Jamie Gordon, the Owner of The Crabbie Goat, tells EverythingGP the award was a complete surprise.

“It was unexpected, I threw it out there just to see where we sat with our peers. I knew we had a good product, but I didn’t realize how good it was until we actually received the award.”

“There was a couple of other distilleries in Alberta that placed lower than us, which I thought was a pretty good feat for us considering we’ve only been in operation since July.”

Gordon says this was the first time they ever entered into a contest of any kind.

He also gave some background on what makes his gin so special.

“What you do is you take a natural spirit like our vodka and you add a bunch of herbs in there. The most predominant herb has to be a juniper berry. You have to have the juniper, piney taste in order to be classified as a gin. One of the things we add is locally foraged wild rose peddles.”

With an award under their belt, Gordon says they’re always looking to improve. He tells EverythingGP that the distillery plans to unveil a Brum and white rum coming out in the next couple of weeks. They also have some moonshines as well.

Another Peace Country distillery, Latitude 55, claimed a bronze also at the awards for their traditional rum.
