Active COVID-19 cases drop to 160 in Grande Prairie as seven new cases identified

The City of Grande Prairie added seven new cases of COVID-19 and 19 recoveries, dropping the active case total in the city to 160 as of the end of day Monday.

It is the fifth consecutive day the active case total in the city has declined, after sitting at 204 as of the end of day March 10.

The County of Grande Prairie added no new cases and five recoveries, lowering the active caseload there to 66.

Across Alberta, there were 355 new cases reported. Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the province’s positivity rate sits at approximately 5.9 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 15 are as follows:

• City of Grande Prairie: 1,833 cases (160 active, 1,650 recovered, 23 deaths)
• County of Grande Prairie: 539 cases (65 active, 471 recovered, three deaths)
• M.D. of Greenview: 425 cases (29 active, 393 recovered, three deaths)
• Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
• M.D. of Spirit River: 48 cases (one active, 47 recovered)
• Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
• M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
• Big Lakes County: 467 cases (seven active, 449 recovered, 11 deaths)
• M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 254 cases (two active, 252 recovered)
• M.D. of Peace: 480 cases (39 active, 441 recovered)
• M.D. of Fairview: 58 cases (one active, 56 recovered, one death)
• Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
• Northern Sunrise County: 240 cases (five active, 234 recovered, one death)
• County of Northern Lights: 98 cases (two active, 96 recoveries)
• Mackenzie County: 1,084 cases (181 active, 885 recovered, 18 deaths)
  

Hospitalizations in Alberta rose to 260 as of Monday night, with 44 people now in an ICU. In the North Zone, 27 people are hospitalized, two of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,952.

There have now been 379,882 doses of vaccine administered in Alberta, an increase of 11,758 over the last 24 hours. 91,868 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
