Peace River man arrested on drug and weapon offences

A Peace River man has been arrested for drug and weapons offences following a complaint from Loon Rivers First Nation.

The Red Earth RCMP responded to reports the man was on the Loon River First Nation on March 3, despite being prohibited from being in the community.

Officers located the man, who provided false identification. The RCMP says an interaction occurred and the man attempted to resist arrest, but was unsuccessful, and officers took him into custody.

Upon a search of his person, officers recovered brass knuckles, suspected methamphetamine, drug trafficking paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Bernard Jason Debrule, a 48-year-old man from Peace River, was charged with:

  • Assaulting a police officer
  • Resisting arrest
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000

Following an Interim Judicial Hearing, Debrule was released from custody. He is due to appear in Red Earth Provincial Court on March 16.

The matter is still under investigation, and anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the police, or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
