Active COVID-19 cases drop to 138 in Grande Prairie as 30 recoveries reported, six new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 30 recoveries and six new cases of COVID-19 for March 17, dropping the active case total in the city to 138 as of the end of day Wednesday.

The County of Grande Prairie added no new cases and four recoveries, dropping the active case total there to 58.

Across Alberta there were 505 new cases, following the completion of 10,900 tests. The province’s positivity rate sits at approximately 4.8 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 17 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,854 cases (138 active, 1,693 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 544 cases (58 active, 483 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 433 cases (31 active, 399 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 49 cases (two active, 47 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 467 cases (seven active, 449 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 253 cases (two active, 251 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 481 cases (27 active, 454 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 58 cases (one active, 56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 240 cases (four active, 235 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 98 cases (two active, 96 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,124 cases (205 active, 900 recovered, 19 deaths)

Hospitalizations rose slightly to 264 in Alberta as of Wednesday night, including 43 people in an ICU. In the North Zone 30 people are in hospital, four of whom are in an ICU.

There was one death reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,957.
