Eight new COVID-19 cases, three recoveries recorded in Grande Prairie

The active COVID-19 case count for the CIty of Grande Prairie rose to 151 as Alberta Health confirmed eight new cases and three recoveries on March 20.

Nine new cases and eight recoveries were confirmed in the County of Grande Prairie, where there are now 61 active cases.

Across Alberta 555 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the province following 11,405 tests, meaning the positivity rate for March 20 was 4.9 per cent. There are now 5,971 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 20 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,894 cases (151 active, 1,720 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 559 cases (61 active, 495 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 439 cases (28 active, 408 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 49 cases (two active, 47 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 467 cases (eight active, 448 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 256 cases (four active, 252 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 483 cases (19 active, 464 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 59 cases (two active, 56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 243 cases (five active, 237 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (three active, 96 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,170 cases (200 active, 951 recovered, 19 deaths)

There were 184 new cases involving COVID-19 variants reported in Alberta on Saturday, all of which were of the one first identified in the United Kingdom. There have now been 1,581 confirmed U.K. variants in the province, including 31 in the North Zone.

There have also been 18 cases of the South African variants and two of the Brazilian variant, neither of which have been found in the North Zone.

Hospitalizations rose by three to 282 on March 20, but cases in the ICU remained flat at 47. In the North Zone there are 27 people in hospital, four of whom are in intensive care.

Alberta Health confirmed two deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the current fatalities up to 1,963.

There have been 459,856 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine shots administered in the province, and 93,236 Albertans are now fully immunized with both doses.
