County of Grande Prairie records fourth COVID-19 fatality, City adds 13 new cases

A fourth person has died as a result of COVID-19 in the County of Grande Prairie.

Alberta Health says the death reported to them was a male in his 70’s, a case which
included comorbidities.

Along with the death from COVID-19, the County added five new cases and five recoveries. There are currently 60 active cases in the region.

The City of Grande Prairie added 13 new cases and eight recoveries and there are currently 156 active cases in the City.

Across Alberta there were 456 new cases identified for Sunday, following the completion of 7,547 tests on Sunday, resulting in a 6.1 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 21 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,907 cases (156 active, 1,728 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 564 cases (60 active, 500 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 440 cases (30 active, 407 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 49 cases (two active, 47 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 468 cases (six active, 451 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 256 cases (three active, 253 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 484 cases (16 active, 468 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 59 cases (one active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 243 cases (four active, 238 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (three active, 96 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,186 cases (216 active, 951 recovered, 19 deaths)

There are 280 people in the hospital and 48 patients in the ICU. In the North Zone, 22 people are in the hospital and three in the ICU.

There were a total of five deaths from COVID-19 reported to Alberta Hea;th on Monday, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,968.

The province also announced over 487,493 Albertans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 93,414 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
