Grande Prairie records 24 new COVID-19 cases, 19 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 24 new cases of COVID-19 and 19 recoveries, increasing the number of active cases in the city to 174 as of the end of day Wednesday.

The County of Grande Prairie added seven new cases and six recoveries, raising the active case total to 61 there.

In Alberta, there were 764 new cases identified following the completion of approximately 14,000 tests. The provincial positivity rate sits at approximately 5.4 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,967 cases (174 active, 1,770 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 585 cases (61 active, 520 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 447 cases (29 active, 415 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 51 cases (four active, 47 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 470 cases (six active, 453 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 259 cases (six active, 253 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 490 cases (15 active, 475 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 59 cases (one active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 243 cases (three active, 239 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (three active, 96 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,222 cases (176 active, 1,027 recovered, 19 deaths)

There were also 191 new cases involving variants of concern in Alberta. There are now 1,400 active variant cases in Alberta, making up about 21 per cent of all active cases in Alberta.

In the North Zone, there have been 62 cases involving variants of concern.

Hospitalizations rose by nine in Alberta to 294 as of Wednesday night, with 55 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, there are 28 people in hospital, five of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths from COVID-19 have been reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,976.

There have now been 532,171 doses of vaccine administered, which equates to about 12,035 doses per 100,000 people.

94,347 Albertans are fully vaccinated with two doses.
