Grande Prairie’s Mayor thinks digital training grant program will have a significant impact

Mar 26, 2021 | 5:30 AM

Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton calls a new digital training program grant “another layer in what this council has been able to do to support businesses.”

“It now opens an opportunity for businesses that have other training needs, not simply just social media and promotional advertising training, it’s training that could be used for various things within their day-to-day business.”

Council approved setting aside $100,000 from City Hall’s Economic Recovery Fund for this program at Monday’s meeting. Businesses could apply for funding to cover 25 per cent of the cost of training that charges more than $300 per person, up to a maximum of $2500. It would cover 50 per cent of the cost for training that charges less than $300 per person up to a maximum of $1250.

Clayton has high hopes for this idea.

“With $100,000 being allocated to this training grant, I think that businesses in our community and our region will see significant impact in what they can do to train their staff in this COVID recovery phase.”

She adds the idea is that businesses use this grant to train current staff.

“And provide meaningful employment while adapting to the pressures of COVID-19. This grant is supported through a federal training grant as well.”

Clayton says applications will be open “in the coming weeks.”
