Storm Road Trip

Storm look for third straight win over Thunder in Drayton Valley Friday

Mar 26, 2021 | 2:04 PM

The Grande Prairie Storm kick off a two-game road trip tonight in Drayton Valley where they will look to improve to 3-0 against the Thunder this season.

The Storm took down the Thunder in Drayton Valley 3-1 in their regular season return back on March 13, while they earned a 3-1 win over the Thunder at home last weekend.

The Storm will then close out their road trip on Saturday in Whitecourt against the Wolverines, a team that has beaten the Storm twice since the AJHL returned to play earlier in March.

The Storm, Wolverines and Thunder are currently playing within a closed cohort under protocols laid out in their approved return to play plan.

The three teams will meet up one final time next weekend before the league takes a two-week break to shuffle cohorts.

Friday night’s game in Drayton Valley will start at 7:00 p.m, while Saturday’s game from Whitecourt will also begin at 7 p.m. Both games can be found on HockeyTV.

The games will be the first since speculation earlier this week suggested the Storm organization was interested in shifting over to the BCHL from the AJHL.

Rod Pedersen of The Rod Pedersen Show reported Thursday that the British Columbia Hockey League was looking to leave the Canadian Junior Hockey League, which also oversees the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Pedersen added his sources had suggested to him four Alberta teams would be interested in joining the BCHL with that move, including Brooks, Okotoks, Spruce Grove and Grande Prairie.

Shortly after the report, EverythingGP’s Shane Clausing was quick to confirm with Storm management that the team had no interest in making such a move and that they were committed to the AJHL.
