RCMP in Peace River grateful for public’s help in locating missing child

RCMP in Peace River are sending their thanks to members of the public for their help in locating a missing 11-year-old boy Saturday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, RCMP say they were called to a report of a child who went missing from an apartment complex in Peace River. From there, officers conducted patrols, neighbourhood inquiries and engaged the Peace River Community Peace Officer to assist in locating the child.

Authorities say search and rescue was also consulted and officers reached out to community members requesting they keep an eye out for the child and report any sightings.

RCMP say with the help of “diligent members of the public”, a starting point for a track for RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) was identified. PDS then began tracking in a rural area near a highway at about 1:50 p.m., about 10 kilometres from the child’s home.

A short time later the child was located safe and unharmed.

“It was with the cooperation of the public, the Peace River Community Peace Officer, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Peace Regional RCMP that this investigation reached a positive outcome of the child being reunited with his family,” said Cpl. Michelle Phillips of Peace Regional RCMP.

“Thank you to all who took their time to help.”
