COVID-19 in schools

Hythe Regional School moving Junior High online as two more COVID-19 cases identified

Mar 28, 2021 | 12:38 PM

Junior High students at Hythe Regional School will be moving to online learning for this upcoming week, as two more cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in individuals from the school.

These cases are in addition to two cases that were previously identified on March 23 and 25 at the school. The two cases announced Sunday last attended the school on March 24.

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division’s decision to move Grades 7, 8 and 9 to remote learning for the week of March 29 is due to the number of staff identified as close contacts. Grades K-6 students will still have in-person classes for next week unless they have been identified as a close contact.

No additional students are required to isolate, says the division, but school administration will be contacting families of isolating students on Monday, March 29 to inform them that their isolation end date has now been extended by two days.

The division says in-person classes will return on April 12 for those grades, following spring break.

Also Sunday, the Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division announced it would be moving Grade 10-12 students at St Joseph High School online, due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases within the division and in an effort to manage available teacher resources.
