Court update: Sentence in Valleyview fraud, trial dates set in Ridgevalley arson

Mar 29, 2021 | 5:30 AM

Alberta Justice says a woman charged after fake bank accounts were used to steal money at the ATB branch in Valleyview has been given jail time and ordered to pay restitution.

Pamela-Ann Medlicott was given a 15-month jail sentence and ordered to pay $324,997.98 in restitution after pleading guilty to a charge of fraud over $5,000 on March 22 in Grande Prairie court.

RCMP said at the time that the fraud happened between January of 2014 and August of 2015, adding that an arrest was made in August of last year after what police termed a lengthy investigation.

Police say fake bank accounts were created using the names of actual and made-up clients. Close to $340,000 was taken.

Mounties also seized a 2009 Seadoo boat as part of the investigation.

Trial dates set in Ridgevalley arson incident

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set for two Red Deer men charged after an incident where a vehicle was set on fire in early February near Ridgevalley.

The trial for Michael Russel Charles Stemmler is set for August 31 while the one for James Patrick Gosse will take place November 10. Both will be held in Grande Prairie court.

Charges include arson, possession of a prohibited weapon, careless use of a firearm, and possession of stolen property over $5000

At the time, RCMP said they got a call just before 8 a.m. on February 3 about a suspicious vehicle stuck in a field.

While rural officers and the Police Dog Service were on the way, they learned that vehicle had been set on fire and two people had run off into a wooded area.

Mounties say they heard shots while tracking the suspects. The Emergency Response Team was then called in.

One of the suspects surrendered right away, the other about an hour later.

This all led to a brief hold and secure at Ridgevalley School.
