Grande Prairie adds 34 new COVID-19 cases, five recoveries

There were 34 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for March 28 as well as five recoveries, bringing the active caseload up to 226.

There were six new cases and three recoveries recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Sunday as well. There are now 87 active cases there.

Across Alberta there were 545 new cases identified following the completion fo about 8,300 tests. The provincial positivity rate sits at about 6.5 per cent.

There were also 249 new cases involving variants of concern identified in Alberta. There are now 2,152 active cases involving variants of concern, which make up 27.2 per cent of all active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 28 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,059 cases (226 active, 1,810 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 625 cases (87 active, 534 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 451 cases (27 active, 421 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 51 cases (four active, 47 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 476 cases (11 active, 454 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 262 cases (nine active, 253 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 494 cases (18 active, 476 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 62 cases (four active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 246 cases (six active, 239 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,241 cases (149 active, 1,073 recovered, 19 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta increase by 11 to 288 as of Sunday night, with 64 of those people in an ICU. In the North Zone, 27 people are hospitalized, five of whom are in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported to Alberta Health from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours. The provincial death toll holds at 1,983.

608,032 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta, an increase of 13,309 on Sunday.
