Peace River School Division names new Superintendent of Schools

Mar 31, 2021 | 2:22 PM

The Peace River School Division will have a new Superintendent of Schools and CEO, as the Board of Trustees has appointed Adam Murray to the role, effective September 1, 2021.

Murray comes into the role having been a teacher and administrator for 19 years. After teaching in the Edmonton Public School Division, Murray joined the Peace River School Division in 2010 as Acting Principal of Whitelaw Academy.

He has since been principal of Hines Creek Composite, Kennedy Elementary School, Grimshaw High School, and Grimshaw Public School.

Three years ago, Murray moved to the division office, when he became Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

Despite his history with the division, Board Chair Darren Kuester says he was chosen after a Canada-wide search.

“Our Canada-wide advertising resulted in a significant number of applications,” said Kuester. “Mr. Murray was selected from the group because of his demonstrated leadership capabilities, his commitment to excellence in serving our students, and his familiarity with the Division.”

Murray holds a Bachelor of Education (2002) and a Master of Education in Educational Studies (2014) from the University of Alberta.

He says he is honoured to be chosen as the new Superintendent, but knows challenges do lie ahead.

“Declining rural enrolments, an increased diversity in students served, and the need for alternative delivery of education are challenges which face our Division,” said Murray. “I look forward to facing these challenges together.”

Murray will take over the role from Paul Bennett, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
