Two arrested following Grande Prairie drug trafficking investigation

An investigation into fentanyl launched in December of 2020 by the Grande Prairie RCMP Drug Enforcement Unit has led to the arrest of two Edmontonians.

The investigation, which was supported by the Dawson Creek RCMP and the Grande Prairie and Edmonton ALERT Organized Crime and Gang Unit, was focused on fentanyl trafficking between Dawson Creek and Grande Prairie.

On March 21 and 22, search warrants were executed on a residence and a vehicle in Grande Prairie, as well as on a storage locker in Edmonton.

Those searches led to the discovery and seizure of 88 grams of fentanyl, 211 grams of cocain, a .38 calibre revolver with altered serial number and ammunition, and $236,385 in Canadian currency.

Khalid Mohamed Salem Almardy (24) and Nicole Claudette Mitchell (25), both of whom are from Edmonton, have been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
  • possession or the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with readily available ammunition

Almardy has also been charged with breaching a release order.

Following an interim judicial hearing, Mitchell was released from custody and is due to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial court on April 28. Almardy was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on March 31.
