Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection annual Try-It Day set for April 10

Apr 4, 2021 | 7:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection is bringing back its annual Try-It Day, with the hope people of all ages will get out and try a new sport or activity.

Try-It Day is being held on April 10 this year and will be held virtually for a second straight year because of COVID-19 restrictions currently in place by the Alberta government.

Paige Grasby with the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection says there are lots of different sports for people to choose from.

“Sports organizations have come forward and have recorded video sessions. Those video sessions run through warm-ups, actual drills and skills for that specific sport. It also gives you a very broad overview of the entire sport. You can then try the sport out at home for yourself.”

In total, the Sport Connection will be posting 15 videos to their website with options for what sports you can try.

“You can participate in as many sports as you would like, and it gives us the opportunity to showcase youth and families to exciting new activities.”

“You just have to go to gpsportconnect.ca and find the Try-It Day tab and all the videos will be posted based on sport. You can also find us on our YouTube channel as well as on all of our social media pages.”

This is the second straight year Try-It Day has been held online. While they don’t have specific numbers for how many people participated last year, Grasby says around a couple hundred people viewed each video that was posted.

With Alberta’s vaccination program picking up speed, Grasby is hopeful by the summer, they’ll be able to have a second Try-It Day, but this time in-person.

“We would love for it to be the biggest and best Try-It Day yet.”

Any updates regarding an in-person Try-It Day this summer will be made on their social media feeds.
