Grande Prairie adds 87 new COVID-19 cases, new death confirmed in M.D. of Greenview

The City of Grande Prairie broke a new daily record for daily COVID-19 cases as Alberta Health confirmed Grande Prairie added 87 new cases for April 6 along with 24 recoveries. There are currently 435 active cases in the Swan City.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 35 new cases identified and eight recoveries. There are 184 active cases in the County.

The new cases come as Alberta reported 1,351 new COVID-19 cases on 14.051 tests completed, resulting in a 9.6 per cent test positivity rate.

Alberta Health reported one new death as a result of COVID-19 for Tuesday.

The death was a man in his 60’s from the M.D. of Greenview. Alberta Health says the man had no comorbidities. It is the fourth death recorded in the M.D. of Greenview.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 6 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,395 cases (435 active, 1,936 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 766 cases (184 active, 578 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 472 cases (24 active, 444 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 13 cases (one active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 52 cases (one active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 16 cases (two active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 117 cases (five active, 102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 484 cases (13 active, 460 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 266 cases (eight active, 258 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 502 cases (13 active, 489 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 69 cases (10 active, 58 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 110 cases (four active, 105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 253 cases (eight active, 244 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,266 cases (48 active, 1,198 recovered, 20 deaths)

Hospiatlziations across the province grew from 328 to 333 in the last 24 hours, while ICU patients increased by three to 79. In the North Zone, 35 people are in hospital, six of them are in intensive care.

To date, Alberta has given 755,831 people their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 133,401 Albertans have been given their second dose.
