Grande Prairie adds 58 new COVID-19 cases, 21 recoveries

There were 58 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the City of Grande Prairie for April 7, along with 19 recoveries. There are now 474 active cases in the Swan City.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 24 new cases found and 18 recoveries, There are 190 active cases in that region.

The new cases in the Peace Region come as Alberta added 1,429 new ones from 15,203 tests, resulting in a 9.4 per cent test positivity rate. Of those new cases, 717 were a variant of concern, which are now the dominant strains of COVID-19 in the province, according to Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,453 cases (474 active, 1,955 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 790 cases (190 active, 596 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 475 cases (25 active, 446 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 13 cases (one active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 54 cases (three active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 16 cases (two active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 118 cases (six active, 102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 492 cases (15 active, 466 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 268 cases (eight active, 260 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 504 cases (12 active, 492 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 72 cases (11 active, 60 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 110 cases (four active, 105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 253 cases (eight active, 244 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,266 cases (41 active, 1,205 recovered, 20 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by seven to 340, while ICU patients also grew from 79 to 83. In the North Zone, 36 people are in hospital and six patients are in the ICU.

Three more deaths were confirmed as a result of COVID-19 for March 7, the provinces COVID-19 death toll now stands at 2,005.

There were over 23,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine given in the last 24 hours, the province says over 779,000 Albertans have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
