Winners named in Beauty of the Peace art competition

Apr 9, 2021 | 12:14 PM

The winners of Pattison Media’s Beauty of the Peace Art Competition have been unveiled.

This year saw 25 different paintings entered into the competition and 350 votes cast, which is the most ever for this competition.

“We had 25 entries this year and they were all strong,” said Grant Berg, the Owner of the Grant Berg Art Gallery.

“Top to bottom everybody got lots of votes and that’s encouraging. I know it takes a lot of conviction and courage for an artist to put their work out there for critique. There were 12 new (artists) and it was a great event.”

After the votes were counted, Lindsay Arcand’s painting titled “Wildfire” was awarded first place in the competition.

Nettie Letourneau and her picture “On the Banks of the Peace” took home second place, while Brigitte Himer’s painting “Pine Grosbeak” took home the third-place prize.

Arcand tells EverythingGP she couldn’t believe her painting was the winner.

“I was totally shocked. I would’ve been happy to even place in the top three because there were some pretty amazing pieces. I definitely didn’t think I would be first.”

Arcand says her painting was meant to showcase the struggles and challenges people have gone through over the last year.

“I wanted to do something really intense, in light of all of the events lately like COVID. People are struggling and I guess I wanted to paint something that depicted that. (It shows) strength, fortitude and getting through struggles.”

With the victory in the competition, Arcand will receive a minimum of one-year representation inside the Grant Berg Gallery.

The second-place prize is a $150 gift certificate for custom framing at the Grant Berg Gallery.

The third-place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for framing.

The winning painting will also be made into prints from Image Design Pros in Grande Prairie and will be used to raise money for charity through Pattison Media.
