warm weather on the way

Above seasonal temperatures expected this week throughout Peace Region

Grande Prairie and most of Alberta will start to see normal spring temperatures arrive this week.

After what has been an interesting start to the spring, Sarah Hoffman, a meteorologist with Environment Canada says an upper ridge of warm air will make its way into the province, which is expected to last for a while.

“It (the warm air) is associated with an upper ridge pushing in from the southern pacific coast. That should persist over the area for the next little while at least. We are looking at above-normal temperatures from Tuesday (April 13) until the end of this week and near normal temperatures for the (next) week to follow.”

Environment Canada is anticipating highs of between plus 12 to 18 degrees this week. The normal average high for this time of the year is around plus 10 degrees.

With the warm weather, Hoffman tells EverythingGP for the most part, we can mostly say goodbye to any more winter weather.

“We are well into spring now and spring in Alberta does mean the odd flake or two, but it does look like we’ll be on that normal to above normal mark for the next two weeks.”

Hoffman also mentioned this warm front isn’t expected to bring much precipitation with it.

“With an upper ridge like this, we typically see more clear skies and warm temperatures. We had a large upper low ridge move through the area over the weekend and it brought some snow and windy conditions to parts of central Alberta. That’s moved off and, in its wake, this warm air is building in behind, so we aren’t expecting anything like that for at least the next week or so.”

In March 2021, Environment Canada released their spring weather prediction and says Alberta will be expecting a cool, but seasonal forecast for the remainder of the season.
