Grande Prairie records 44 new COVID-19 cases, 41 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 44 new cases of COVID-19 and 41 recoveries for Wednesday, raising the active case total in the city by three to 484 as of the end of day April 14.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 27 new cases along with 16 recoveries. There are now 203 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,646 new cases identified following the completion of 17,198 tests. Those tests had a 9.6 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 1,020 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases now make up 53.5 per cent of the 16,223 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 14 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,687 cases (484 active, 2179 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 890 cases (203 active, 683 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 488 cases (24 active, 460 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 15 cases (three active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 58 cases (seven active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 22 cases (seven active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 128 cases (13 active, 105 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 554 cases (74 active, 469 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 275 cases (11 active, 264 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 525 cases (28 active, 497 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 87 cases (22 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 117 cases (ten active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 260 cases (11 active, 248 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 106 cases (seven active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,359 cases (94 active, 1,245 recovered, 20 deaths)

There were 416 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Wednesday night, a decrease of four over the last 24 hours. Of those in hospital, 86 patients are in intensive care, down six from Tuesday.

In the North Zone, 33 people are in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.

Five more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have now been 2,034 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.
