Grande Prairie adds 41 new COVID-19 cases, 38 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 41 new cases of COVID-19 and 38 recoveries for April 15, raising the active case total in the city by three to 487 as of the end of day Thursday.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 29 new cases along with 14 recoveries. There are now 218 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,616 new cases identified following the completion of 16,876 tests. Those tests had a 9.6 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 898 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 53.5 per cent of the 16,759 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 14 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,728 cases (487 active, 2,217 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 919 cases (218 active, 697 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 489 cases (23 active, 462 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 16 cases (four active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 60 cases (nine active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 22 cases (seven active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 131 cases (16 active, 105 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 565 cases (84 active, 470 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 279 cases (15 active, 264 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 530 cases (33 active, 497 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 91 cases (26 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 120 cases (13 active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 266 cases (16 active, 249 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 108 cases (nine active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,376 cases (110 active, 1,246 recovered, 20 deaths)

There were 423 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Thursday night, an increase of seven over the last 24 hours. Of those, 93 patients are in intensive care, also up seven from Thursday.

In the North Zone, 34 people are in hospital, seven of whom are in intensive care.

No deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,034 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.
