Grande Prairie records 27 new COVID-19 cases, 24 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 27 new cases of COVID-19 and 24 recoveries for April 16, raising the active case total in the city by three to 490 as of the end of day Friday.

The County of Grande Prairie saw eight new cases along with 19 recoveries. There are now 207 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,486 new cases identified following the completion of 16,353 tests. Those tests had a 9.0 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 977 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 54.4 per cent of the 17,307 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 16 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,755 cases (490 active, 2,241 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 927 cases (207 active, 716 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 490 cases (23 active, 463 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 16 cases (three active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 62 cases (10 active, 52 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 22 cases (seven active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 131 cases (15 active, 106 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 569 cases (87 active, 471 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 279 cases (15 active, 264 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 533 cases (35 active, 498 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 91 cases (26 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 124 cases (17 active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 267 cases (17 active, 249 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 110 cases (11 active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,388 cases (120 active, 1,248 recovered, 20 deaths)

There were 445 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Friday night, an increase of 22 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 94 patients are in intensive care, up one from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 30 people are in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,037 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.
