Grande Prairie adds 25 new COVID-19 cases, 36 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 25 new cases of COVID-19 and 36 recoveries for Saturday, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down by 11 to 479 as of the end of day April 17.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 17 new cases along with 18 recoveries. There are now 206 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,516 new cases identified following the completion of 15,343 tests. Those tests had a 9.9 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 800 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 54.4 per cent of the 17,935 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 17 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,780 cases (479 active, 2,277 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 944 cases (206 active, 734 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 493 cases (24 active, 465 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 16 cases (three active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 64 cases (12 active, 52 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 22 cases (seven active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 132 cases (16 active, 106 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 577 cases (95 active, 471 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 280 cases (16 active, 264 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 534 cases (35 active, 499 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 91 cases (26 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 125 cases (18 active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 267 cases (17 active, 249 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 112 cases (13 active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,393 cases (124 active, 1,249 recovered, 20 deaths)

There were 451 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Friday night, an increase of six over the last 24 hours. Of those, 103 patients are in intensive care, up nine from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 33 people are in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,040 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,147,048 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 17, with a total of 25,147 on Saturday.

227,700 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
