Grande Prairie records 35 new COVID-19 cases, 50 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 35 new cases of COVID-19 and 50 recoveries for Monday, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down by 15 to 485 as of the end of day April 19.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 13 new cases along with 17 recoveries. There are now 211 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,345 new cases identified following the completion of 13,163 tests. Those tests had a 10.4 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 816 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 56.9 per cent of the 18,481 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 19 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,890 cases (485 active, 2,381 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 984 cases (211 active, 769 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 498 cases (25 active, 469 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 cases (five active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 66 cases (13 active, 53 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 23 cases (seven active, 16 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 132 cases (15 active, 107 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 589 cases (104 active, 474 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 284 cases (19 active, 265 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 541 cases (40 active, 501 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 95 cases (27 active, 67 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 130 cases (22 active, 107 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 273 cases (20 active, 252 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 113 cases (14 active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,412 cases (143 active, 1,248 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 476 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Monday night, an increase of 16 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 105 patients are in intensive care, up one from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 42 people are in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care.

Five more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,048 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,196,428 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 19, with a total of 27,909 being administered on Monday.

239,232 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
