Alberta recorded 1,699 new cases of COVID-19 for April 20, while no local data was shared Wednesday due to a technical issue with Alberta Health’s reporting system.

Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says on Twitter the issue is being fixed and that a detailed update will be provided on Thursday.

The new cases were identified following the completion of 18,412 tests. Those tests had an approximate 9.5 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 1,332 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up about 59 per cent of the 18,843 active cases in Alberta.

There have now been 1,232,925 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 20, with a total of 27,578 being administered on Tuesday.

244,527 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
