The story has been updated from its original version.

The Alberta government has passed legislation to amend the Employment Standards Code to include a section in regards to COVID-19 vaccinations, which will allow all full and part-time workers in Alberta to have three hours paid leave when it is their turn to receive their innoculation.

Minister of Labour and Immigration Jason Copping says this applies to all Albertans, regardless of how long they have been working for their employer.

Copping says it could be utilized by employees two times if they are receiving a vaccine in two doses.

He adds this is meant to help those working lower-income jobs or have multiple jobs, who have to balance between getting paid and taking time to get vaccinated.

“By passing this legislation, we are reducing barriers for Alberta workers to get vaccinated. This means no Albertan will have to choose between getting vaccinated and putting food on the table.

Copping adds he urges all employees and employers to work together when scheduling COVID-19 vaccination leaves.
