Grande Prairie adds 68 COVID-19 cases over two days, 102 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 68 new cases of COVID-19 and 102 recoveries over the last 48 hours, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down by 34 to 451 as of the end of day April 21.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 30 new cases along with 38 recoveries over the last two days. There are now 203 active cases there.

Local data was not shared Wednesday due to a technical issue with Alberta Health’s COVID-19 aggregate data reporting system.

Across Alberta, there were 1,857 new cases identified following the completion of 17,524 tests. Those tests had a 10.7 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 1,326 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 59.5 per cent of the 19,182 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 21 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,958 cases (451 active, 2,483 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,014 cases (203 active, 807 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 502 cases (24 active, 474 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 cases (four active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 68 cases (13 active, 55 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (eight active, 16 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 134 cases (16 active, 108 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 614 cases (118 active, 485 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 293 cases (24 active, 269 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 548 cases (38 active, 510 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 98 cases (25 active, 72 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 132 cases (20 active, 111 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 282 cases (29 active, 252 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 115 cases (15 active, 100 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,455 cases (178 active, 1,256 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 518 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Wednesday night, an increase of 42 over the last 48 hours. Of those, 116 patients are in intensive care, up 11 from Monday night.

In the North Zone, 47 people are in hospital (up 5), nine of whom are in intensive care (up one).

Six more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 48 hours. There have been 2,054 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,275,287 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 21, with a total of 41,164 being administered on Wednesday.

252,422 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
