Grade 2-6 students at Whispering Ridge to return to in-person classes next week

Apr 23, 2021 | 5:27 PM

Students in Grades 2-6 at Whispering Ridge Community School will be able to return to in-person classes next week, as cleaning and restoration work has been completed in some areas of the school following a fire on April 11.

In a letter posted to Facebook, administration says the main floor west wing and the upper west wing, which houses these grades, have been deemed safe for re-entry. Those students will be able to return to the classroom on Wednesday, April 28.

Administration adds that other areas, including the gymnasium and counselling offices, will not be accessible as cleaning, restoration and air quality testing work continues in those areas.

That work also continues in the upper east wing, which houses Grades 7-8. With that, those students will continue learning online for the time being.

“Although we are disappointed to not be welcoming these students back quite yet, it is incredibly important to us that we bring students back to a safe environment,” notes administration in the letter.

The fire that occurred nearly two weeks ago caused significant damage to the modular classrooms which housed the Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes.

The school has since made arrangements for those students to have in-person classes at the Grande Prairie Alliance Church.
