Grande Prairie adds 22 new COVID-19 cases, 38 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 22 new cases of COVID-19 and 38 recoveries over the last 24 hours. That brings the active case total in the Swan City down by 16 to 435 as of the end of day April 22.

The County of Grande Prairie saw seven new cases along with 29 recoveries for Thursday. There are now 181 active cases there.

In the County, the Beaverlodge Hospital has been placed under an outbreak status as of April 21. Alberta Health Services says that one patient at the hospital has tested positive, and admissions are restricted and visitation is limited at this time.

Across Alberta, there were 1,690 new cases identified following the completion of 17,526 tests. Those tests had a 9.6 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 1,184 cases involving variants of concern. Variant cases make up 60.4 per cent of the 19,446 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,980 cases (435 active, 2,521 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,021 cases (181 active, 836 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 504 cases (26 active, 474 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 cases (four active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 67 cases (12 active, 55 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (seven active, 17 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 134 cases (15 active, 109 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 624 cases (122 active, 491 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 296 cases (27 active, 269 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 551 cases (41 active, 510 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 98 cases (22 active, 75 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 132 cases (20 active, 111 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 284 cases (31 active, 252 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 115 cases (15 active, 100 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,462 cases (166 active, 1,275 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 549 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Wednesday night, an increase of 31 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 125 patients are in intensive care, up nine from Wednesday.

In the North Zone, 48 people are in hospital (up one), eight of whom are in intensive care (down one).

Five more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,059 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,319,837 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 22, with a total of 44,550 being administered on Thursday.

260,231 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
