Grant Berg Art Gallery named finalist for Alberta Business Award of Distinction

The Grant Berg Art Gallery in Grande Prairie has been named a finalist for the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction 2021.

The Gallery is just one of two businesses in the Peace Country to be named as a finalist, and Grant Berg says that fact came as a surprise.

“I was actually shocked, because as we all know there are so many amazing businesses here in the Peace Country and so many people doing amazing work across all categories in the business awards,” said Berg.

The other finalist from the Peace Country is Honey Bunny Inc., Canada’s largest organic apiary. The honey company from Guy is a finalist in the Marketing category.

The Grant Berg Art Gallery was nominated in two categories, the Community Attraction category and the Indigenous category. Berg says he didn’t want to go up against any “heavyweights” like provincially run galleries and museums in the Attractions category.

He adds by pursuing the Indigenous category he could have a better chance while also being able to pay tribute to his grandmother, who was Cree.

“She’s been gone a long time but I grew up very close to her, and try to honour her every day. So, that was the one I forged ahead with, to again, honour my grandma because she was just so wonderful.”

The Grant Berg Art Gallery has won some local awards in the past, but Berg says he has never even been nominated, let alone named as a finalist for a provincial award, and he’s very honoured to be recognized in this way.

A panel of judges will review the finalists, and the winners will be announced at the Alberta Business Awards of Distinction virtual event on June 25, 2021.
