Grande Prairie adds 34 new COVID-19 cases, 33 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 34 new cases of COVID-19 and 33 recoveries over the last 24 hours, bringing the active case total in the Swan City up by one to 436 as of the end of day April 23.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 21 new cases along with 12 recoveries for Friday. There are now 190 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,592 new cases identified following the completion of 17,725 tests. Those tests had an 8.9 per cent test positivity rate. There were also 1,132 cases involving variants of concern. Variant cases make up 60.9 per cent of the 19,702 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,014 cases (436 active, 2,554 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,042 cases (190 active, 848 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 504 cases (25 active, 475 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 cases (four active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 67 cases (11 active, 56 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (seven active, 17 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 134 cases (11 active, 113 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 629 cases (120 active, 498 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 299 cases (28 active, 271 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 557 cases (44 active, 513 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 100 cases (22 active, 77 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (20 active, 112 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 287 cases (33 active, 253 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 115 cases (13 active, 102 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,478 cases (164 active, 1,293 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 584 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Friday night, an increase of 35 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 129 patients are in intensive care, up four from Friday.

In the North Zone, 53 people are in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care (down one).

Five more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,064 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,361,365 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 23, after 41,528 were administered on Friday.

267,195 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
