Grande Prairie adds 48 new COVID-19 cases, Alberta adds 1,434

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 48 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 recoveries over the last 24 hours, bringing the active case total in the Swan City up to 463 as of the end of day April 24.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 19 new cases along with five recoveries for Saturday, bringing the active case total there to 204.

Across Alberta, there were 1,434 new cases identified following the completion of 17,025 tests. Those tests had an 8.4 per cent test positivity rate. Of the new cases, there were 932 variants of concern found. Variant cases make up 61.1 per cent of the 20,136 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,062 cases (463 active, 2,575 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,061 cases (204 active, 853 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 506 cases (26 active, 476 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 20 cases (six active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 69 cases (12 active, 57 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (six active, 18 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 135 cases (12 active, 113 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 635 cases (106 active, 518 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 301 cases (29 active, 272 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 558 cases (45 active, 513 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 101 cases (23 active, 77 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (20 active, 112 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 290 cases (36 active, 253 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 115 cases (13 active, 102 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,482 cases (166 active, 1,295 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 594 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Saturday night, an increase of ten over the last 24 hours. Of those, 140 patients are in intensive care, up 11 from Saturday.

In the North Zone, 54 people are in hospital, nine of whom are in intensive care (down one).

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,067 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,398,673 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 24, after 37,308 were administered on Saturday.

271,490 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
