Grande Prairie records 25th COVID-19 fatality, 47 new cases

The 25th death from COVID-19 has been recorded in the City of Grande Prairie.

The death was one of two reported to Alberta Health in the North Zone over the last 24 hours. One was a man in his 40s which occurred on April 20, while the other was a man in his 70s which occured on April 24. Both cases included comorbidities.

There were seven new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province on Monday. There have now been 2,074 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

The City of Grande Prairie also recorded 47 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 recoveries over the last 24 hours. That brings the active case total in the Swan City to 488 as of the end of day April 25.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 20 new cases along with five recoveries for Sunday. There are now 219 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,495 new cases identified following the completion of 14,848 tests. Those tests had a 10 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 25 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,109 cases (488 active, 2,596 recovered, 25 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,081 cases (219 active, 858 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 506 cases (25 active, 477 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 19 cases (five active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 69 cases (12 active, 57 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (six active, 18 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 136 cases (10 active, 116 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 638 cases (98 active, 529 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 302 cases (30 active, 272 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 561 cases (37 active, 524 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 101 cases (23 active, 77 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (19 active, 113 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 290 cases (35 active, 254 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 115 cases (12 active, 103 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,486 cases (170 active, 1,295 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 616 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Sunday night, an increase of 22 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 145 patients are in intensive care, up five from Sunday.

In the North Zone, 55 people are in hospital (up one), 10 of whom are in intensive care (up one).

As of Sunday, 1,419,188 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province with 274,289 of those being second doses.
