Grande Prairie adds 10 new COVID-19 cases, 59 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 10 new cases of COVID-19 and 59 recoveries for Tuesday. That brings the active case total in the Swan City down by 49 to 427 as of the end of day April 27.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 11 new cases along with 25 recoveries for Tuesday. There are now 194 active cases there.

There were six new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province, including one in the Big Lakes County area. It is the 12th death from COVID-19 recorded in the area, which includes High Prairie, and was a man in his 80’s which occurred on Monday.

There have now been 2,073 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

Across Alberta, there were 1,839 new cases identified following the completion of 18,976 tests. Those tests had a 10 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,146 cases (427 active, 2,694 recovered, 25 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,102 cases (194 active, 904 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 510 cases (21 active, 485 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 19 cases (five active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 73 cases (15 active, 58 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 24 cases (one active, 23 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 137 cases (eight active, 119 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 652 cases (91 active, 549 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 305 cases (32 active, 273 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 567 cases (38 active, 529 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 101 cases (12 active, 88 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (12 active, 120 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 301 cases (38 active, 262 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 114 cases (seven active, 107 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,491 cases (124 active, 1,346 recovered, 21 deaths)

There were 643 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Tuesday night, an increase of eight over the last 24 hours. Of those, 145 patients are in intensive care, down two from Monday.

In the North Zone, 68 people are in hospital (up eight), 11 of whom are in intensive care (same as Monday night).

As of Monday, 1,497,256 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 28,471 of those doses being administered on Tuesday.

288,595 people have received two doses of the vaccine, meaning they are fully immunized.

Approximately 26.2 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
