Grande Prairie records seven opioid deaths in first two months of 2021
New data released by the Alberta Government shows that in the first two months of 2021, there were seven drug poisoning deaths in Grande Prairie, all of which were linked to non-pharmaceutical opioids.
Three of those deaths were recorded in January, while the other four occurred in February.
That figure is much higher than the first two months of 2020, when there were two drug poisoning deaths, only one of which was linked to opioids.
However, 2020 did end with a record 33 opioid deaths in the Swan City, 10 of which came in the last two months of the year (six in November, four in December).
